On May 26, 2021, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed Federal Law No. 145-FZ "On the Amendment of Article 25-6 of the Federal Law, On the Procedure for Leaving the Russian Federation and Entering the Federation From Russia". This law facilitates the visa process for foreign citizens traveling to Russia for tourism purposes.

This law becomes effective upon the expiration of ninety days after the date of its official publication. In other words, as of August 25, 2021, the tourist visa can be requested following the new process of obtaining.

What are the changes?

  1. The tourist visa will be granted for up to 6 months to a foreign citizen entering the Russian Federation as a tourist. Currently, the visa is granted for up to 1 month or 6 months according to the principle of reciprocity.
  2. You can obtain a tourist visa by presenting the following documents:
  • Confirmation (tourist voucher) from a tourist company accredited by the Unified Federal Register of Tour Operators. Currently, this is the only option available to apply for a tourist visa.
  • Confirmation of reservation of a hotel or other accommodation facilities included in the Unique List of Classified Hotels, Ski Slopes and Beaches. Please note that the reservation date must be after August 24, 2021.
